H. D.

Instrumental in the avant-garde Imagist movement of the early 20th century, H. D. (born Hilda Doolittle) combined her interest in Greek mythology and classicism with speech-like rhythms and simplicity in her poetry. She was also a memoirist and novelist.

About
Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, H. D. moved to London in 1911 and soon became associated with Imagist poets Ezra Pound and Richard Aldington. Her poetry, while never ceasing to be experimental, always incorporated culturally and socially relevant topics, especially related to the two world wars. Her perspective as a woman (and one with radical views on gender and sexuality) added to the depth and gravity of her verses, and her poetry was very popular and influential throughout her lifetime.
