We were talking about what it was like to be a child
in a little prairie town
buried in wheat
in burning summers
beneath a brilliant sky
As the train flashed,
We were talking about (childhood in a little prairie town)
blustery winters
nothing but snow
and the feeling that the world was left behind
As the train flashed
We were talking
about windy springs
(and) blazing summers
and fall afternoons (when) the…prairie was like the bush
that burned with fire
(Oh!) I wish I could be a little boy again!
As the train flashed
We were talking
(of prairie towns
and boyhood
and Ántonia, my Ántonia!)
