The song set was originally published in 1942 as Three Walt Whitman Songs(which included the first three songs of the group). In 1947, Weill published “Come Up From the Fields, Father,” and the song grouping is now published as Four Walt Whitman Songs. The songs were first written for voice and piano, but have also been orchestrated.
