Gary Snyder
Gary Snyder's poetry has been set by American composers John Harbison and Daniel Asia, among many others. Snyder has won many prestigious awards and fellowships, including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1975, the Guggenheim Fellowship, and was a finalist for the National Book Award in 1993.
About
A native of San Francisco, Gary Snyder began his career as a member of the Beat Generation. He is known for the eco-conscious perspective of his poetry, and is also grouped with the San Francisco Renaissance poets. Snyder’s poetry is imbued with a deep spirituality, which stems from his own beliefs as a Zen Buddhist. He taught at the University of California, Davis for many years.
