Born in Peekskill, New York, Frank Dempster Sherman attended and graduated from Columbia University. He taught there most of his life. He was a passionate genealogist and was known as a writer of light verse. Louis Untermeyer describes Sherman’s poetry as “pleasantness perfumed with a pungeant wit.”
