Born in Chicago, Illinois, Joseph Schwantner studied at the American Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1979 for his orchestral piece Aftertones of Infinity, Schwantner’s unique style of combination between tonal and atonal music has helped draw a broader audience to new music.
