Carl Sandburg

Carl Sandburg
Sandburg, a native of Illinois, is most famous for his poem "Chicago." Not only did Sandburg win three Pulizer Prizes (for his works The Complete Poems of Carl Sandburg, Corn Huskers, and for his biography of Abraham Lincoln entitled Abraham Lincoln: The War Years), but he also won a Grammy Award for his 1959 recording of Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portraits with the New York Philharmonic. The recording of "The Hangman at Home," provided in the audio playlist below, is made possible through a collaboration with SongFest. The performers are Heather Reithmeier and Matthew Brower, and the performance took place on June 19, 2010 at Pepperdine University.
