Peter La Farge

Hailed by many as "Native America's Protest Poet," Peter La Farge was a folk singer and songwriter. His most famous song is "The Ballad of Ira Hayes," which is about a Pima Native American who helped raise the American flag at Iwo Jima and later experienced prejudice and died of alcoholism in America.

La Farge was a New York based folk singer and songwriter and a descendant of Native Americans. His songs inspired other folk singers, such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Pete Seeger.
