Howard Mumford Jones
Howard Mumford Jones' translations of the texts of anonymous Irish monks are part of Samuel Barber's Hermit Songs, Op. 29. His translations were also set by John Duke in Duke's song set Eight Songs on Translations from the Greek and Latin Lyric Poets: for Baritone and Piano.

Born in Michigan, Howard Mumford Jones taught at Harvard for many years. He was also a literary critic and writer. He won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction for his volume O Strange New World: American Culture-The Formative Years.
