About

Mark Fax was born on June 15, 1911. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, he was considered a child prodigy as he displayed musical abilities on the organ at a young age. He studied at Syracuse University and Eastman School of Music, receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively. He would later go on to return to Eastman to further study advanced music composition.

Fax is best known for his critically acclaimed Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, as well as for the opera, Til Victory is Won, which premiered at the Kennedy Center in 1967. Other vocal works include “Rain Song”, “Rondel”, and “Inspiration”.
