Louis Campbell-Tipton

An American composer who lived in Paris from 1901 until his death, Louis Campbell-Tipton composed several song settings of Walt Whitman's poetry. He also set the texts of Arthur Symons, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Hermann Hagedorn and Arthur J. Lamb as well as several French lyrics.

About
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Louis Campbell-Tipton began publishing his songs at the age of 15. He studied in Leipzig and settled in Paris at the age of 24, convinced that he would be unable to have his works published in America.
While he composed several instrumental works and two operas (neither of which were published), he was and is still known today for his more than two dozen art songs.
